Perth Zoo (October 14, 2004) is now ready for viewing.

I promise this is the last Zoo Gallery for a bit.  I have finally run out of Zoo trips since I got my digital camera.  I will start posting up Galleries of other sites/scenes around Perth soon.

The baby Baboon was quite young at this point and stuck pretty close to his mother.  The baby Leemur on the other hand was quite used to being on its own.

I tried to put the Orangutan pictures in order.  It was quite interesting (and at times funny) to watch this Orangutan get the box from the ground, put the box on its head, climb up one post, then do the tightrope walk to the other roost then back again.

I couldn't figure out how it saw the ropes to hand on while going between the two platforms.

Perth Zoo (October 24, 2002) is now ready for viewing.

It must have been a “baby” day at the Zoo.

In the Perth Zoo (Octover 24, 2004) Gallery:

- The mother Ring Tail Leemur had one or the other of the twins on her back.  The Perth Zoo has a little walk in area that you can get up close with the Leemurs (or they can get up close with you)

- If you look closely at two of the Emperor Tamarin pictures you can see two babies on the Male Emeperor Tamarin's back.

- The baby Baboon was out looking cute again.  (I can't remeber if he had his interesting haircut in these pictures or not.)

Perth Zoo (November 7, 2004) has now been posted.

This was the second time we saw the Bengal Tiger sisters.  I must have taken close to 200 pictures of the two of them that day.

I was surprised at some of the detail that I am getting with my camera.  You may not be able to see it in the smaller image here, but on the original, you can see an ant on one of the petals of the flower.

Also:

- The Splendid Fairy Wren, I believe, is a new animal to my Galleries.  The bright blue of this bird rivals the Blue Bird (if not brighter)

- The elephant was giving itself a good dirt bath.

Perth Zoo (December 22, 2004) has now been posted.

We were obviously having a slow Christmas holiday going to the Zoo twice in 5 days, but we enjoy going.

One of the great things about the Perth Zoo is that even if we don't get to see many animals the grounds themselves are very nice and we can usually get some good “nature” pictures.

In the Perth Zoo (December 22, 2004) Gallery:

- A few examples of the colourful flowers that are seen around Perth

- The Bengal Tiger is one of the 2 new additions to the Zoo.  We got 2 female Bengal Tigers.  This may have been the first or second time that we had seen them.

- The Leemur was very relaxed on this morning.  Literally just hanging around.

- Orangutans playing “Hide and Seek“

Shock Horror, the new Gallery is from the Perth Zoo (Perth Zoo (December 27, 2004))  (I am running out of Zoo pictures honest. :-})

I believe I mentioned in an earlier post about the Orangutan that likes to stand right up close to the window.  You can see her in her favourite position here.  She stands on one leg and leans up against the ledge of the window.

Also:

- This is the first pictures I have posted of the Fairy Penguins.

- Yes, that is our male Lion and no he has not had his mane shaved off.  A few years ago he got some disease that caused his mane to fall out and left him with a droopy lower lip.  Poor Guy.

- I like the picture of the Female Lion looking at me through the long grass.

After a major computer crash at the begining of the week, I am finally back.  Well sort of back,  I still have a long way to go to get my system back to where it was, but I have basic functionality.

Here are my notes for the January 16, 2005 Gallery.

The Cheetah was sitting right up close to the glass the whole time we were there.  I got some fairly good pictures of her.  One thing we did notice is that when the Cheetah is content it actually purrs, just like a cat.  We read/heard somewhere that the Cheetah is the biggest cat that can purr.  Lions and Tigers can't purr.  I don't know if this is true or not.  I guess some research is needed.

Aother “new” animal in this lot is the Otters.  They are very hard to catch standing (or sitting) still and don't seem to be on display too much either.

The Kangaroos were out in full force this day too.  The Zoo has an Australian Walkabout section and a lot of the aminals are free to roam through the area.

The Numbat was standing perfectly still in the same spot for the 30 minutes or so that I took pictures.  Usually the Numbat is running around at the very back of the enclosure.  I think this one was not the usual one which is on display.  I think it was still getting used to being out in the public view.
