My name is Andrew Sutton, aka Shandy.

I am currently living and working in the UK as a software developer. This blog contains mainly IT related issues.

I was a Microsoft VB MVP for a couple of years (Apr 2004-Mar 2006) and was a vbCityLeader between April 2003 and June 2007.

If you are looking for my Sri Lanka or Morocco experiences check out Shandy's Sri Lanka Blog or Shandy's Morocco Blog. My personal (Non IT) blog is now at Shandy's Place

There seems to have been a lot of (heated) discussion about Petition For The Development Of Unmanaged Visual Basic And Visual Basic For Applications. Personally I don't support it and won't be signing it basically because the support or lack of it from Microsoft has no direct bearing on myself. If it is something that other people feel strongly about that is fine with me. Personally I am happy with VB.NET and will use that as my upgrade path. We all have different backgrounds and requirements :)

However, the one observation I have to make is why did it take so long to get this campaign up and running? Surely a campaign like this should have been started a couple of years ago at least and not left until 3 weeks before the first drop in support level from Microsoft? Maybe a few of these developers need some project management training ;-) Or maybe I'm just missing something?

There is a thread running at vbCity, VB7 Petition and we have had some discussion in the vbCity Leader's lounge where no one really came out in favour of the petition.
