My name is Andrew Sutton, aka Shandy.

I am currently living and working in the UK within the garment industry as an IT specialist. This blog contains mainly IT related issues.

I was a Microsoft VB MVP for a couple of years (Apr 2004-Mar 2006) and was a vbCityLeader between April 2003 and June 2007.

If you are looking for my Sri Lanka or Morocco experiences check out Shandy's Sri Lanka Blog or Shandy's Morocco Blog. My personal (Non IT) blog is now at Shandy's Place

I've rarely posted graphics to my blog as I've always seemed to struggle to get the graphics displayed for one reason or another. Anyway, this evening I sat down and worked out what was going on.

When I embed a graphic into a blog post I go to the gallery where I have uploaded the image to. In my previous post this was the Photos gallery. I then click on the image I want to include in my blog post. The example in my previous post was 3 Laptops. I then click on the Original Image link. I can then copy and paste the address of the image and place it into the SRC attribute of an IMG tag (I just replace the o_ prefic with t_ which gives a thumbnail image rather than the full blown original).

So far so good. If I am using the web browser Admin feature I can even switch between HTML and Design mode and see the image is displayed correctly. However, as soon as I post the blog entry something goes wrong and the link gets changed. In the previous post example http://blogs.vbcity.com//images/blogs_vbcity_com/shandy/62/t_3%20Laptops.jpg gets changed to //images/blogs_vbcity_com/shandy/62/t_3%20Laptops.jpg. The // at the beginning of this link is incorrect. there should only be a single /. So I have to re-edit the entry again, take out one of the / characters so that the link becomes /images/blogs_vbcity_com/shandy/62/t_3%20Laptops.jpg, re-post the entry and it appears correct.

Is it just me who has this problem or is it a bug in the .TEXT script?

I'm sitting at home with three laptops in front of me. One is my personal one I'm using to enter this blog entry on, one is my newly fixed old work laptop I am updating and the the third one is my replacement work laptop I am copying stuff off from. I took a photo of them with my newly aquired i-Mate SP3.

Didn't the bible say something about the geeks inheriting the earth? :-D

As of yesterday afternoon, after an epic battle with Sri Lanka customs, I have my very own i-Mate SP3. Its not brand new but a second hand one. Helen, my wife popped out today and got me a SIM card from DialogGSM, which should be activated by tomorrow afternoon. I downloaded the ActiveSync 3.8 software, connected the i-Mate to my Toshiba Satellite tablet PC via a USB cable and got the two happily talking to one another.

I'm hoping to do some .NET development using the i-Mate as well as using it to keep up to date on my emails and even update my personal blog via email using it! The calendar facility will also be very useful as I have a very poor memory and rely heavily of Outlook's calendar facility to remind me where I'm supposed to be and where. Now I can get reminders from my mobile phone!

Following on from these two previous posts My Dell Inspiron 8500 Screen Is Dead :( and My Dell Inspiron 8500 Screen Is Dead Again, I can now report that thanks to the feedback from MarsKy my Dell Inspiron 8500 screen is working again! The same issue that happened to him had happened to me. The switch that monitors whether the screen is up or down had come away from its mounting point and once I removed the plastic strip at the top of the keyboard and remounted the switch the screen worked again! Many thanks MarsKy :)

So I've got a couple of days work copying files from my replacement laptop back to my old laptop and re-configuring my old laptop again. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is a permanent solution this time.
