My name is Andrew Sutton, aka Shandy.

I am currently living and working in the UK as a software developer. This blog contains mainly IT related issues.

I was a Microsoft VB MVP for a couple of years (Apr 2004-Mar 2006) and was a vbCityLeader between April 2003 and June 2007.

If you are looking for my Sri Lanka or Morocco experiences check out Shandy's Sri Lanka Blog or Shandy's Morocco Blog. My personal (Non IT) blog is now at Shandy's Place

I have given in trying to configure my i-mate SP3 manually to access the internet using Dialog GSM. I have followed the instuctions on their web site for GPRS, contacted an on-line support person and I am still unconnected. The phone part works fine. Just no internet access. The on-line support person was very helpful though and suggested I take the phone into a Dialog GSM support center and they'd configure it for me there. So either a job for my wife Helen tomorrow or for me on Saturday.

The on-line support was pretty good once I got it to work. It basically gives you an on screen web chat window a bit like a very basic MSN Messenger. The first time it just timed out. The second time a browser window showing Dialog GSM's home page on came up and covered up the chat window so by the time I noticed the chat window the support person had signed off. The third time though I was ready, immediately closed the irritating popup window and managed to get a few things to try from the support chap at the other end.

I shall post an update at the weekend with full instructions on how to get connected, assuming I am :)

Update, as promised, I now have my i-mate SP3 connected to the internet through Dialog GMS's network in Sri Lanka
