My name is Andrew Sutton, aka Shandy.

I am currently living and working in the UK as a software developer. This blog contains mainly IT related issues.

I was a Microsoft VB MVP for a couple of years (Apr 2004-Mar 2006) and was a vbCityLeader between April 2003 and June 2007.

If you are looking for my Sri Lanka or Morocco experiences check out Shandy's Sri Lanka Blog or Shandy's Morocco Blog. My personal (Non IT) blog is now at Shandy's Place

I am following up from my previous post, i-Mate SP3 & Dialog GSM In Sri Lanka - Teething Troubles. The good news is I now have my i-mate SP3 connected to the internet using Dialog GSM's pre-paid service. My wife, Helen, took the i-mate SP3 to the local Dialog GSM centre (on Duplication Road, just down from Liberty Plaza) and it took a couple of their technicians 15 minutes or so to get it connected.

It was the first time they had seen an i-mate SP3 as apparently it is not a model readily available in Sri Lanka.

For the record the way to get it connected to Dialog GSM you need to select

  • Start, 8 Settings, 9 More, 2 Data Connections, Menu, 1 Edit Connections, 4 GPRS Connections, Menu, Add (giving the connection a name) and ensure the following properties are set (leaving all others blank - or 0.0.0.0)
    • Connects To: The Internet
    • Access Point: ppinternet
  • Start, 8 Settings, 9 More, 2 Data Connections,
    • Internet Connection: <The name you gave the connection setup in the point above>
  • Start, 4 Internet Explorer, Menu, 6 Options, Connections and set the following property:
    • Select Network: The Internet

I had done all of the above but used the incorrect Access Point as both the one on the web site and the one given out by their on-line support were incorrect.
