Declan had his operation today and it was a success. A bit of a nice surprise was the fact that they used a donor valve in place of an artificial one which, although it won't grow with him, it will last 10-20 years with a possibility of lasting forever.
He went off really well - he sat on the bed in the anasthetic room smiling and talking and the anaesthetist said "I'm just going to put some water into this tube to make sure it's ok - is that alright?". Declan sat with a smile on his face and said "Yes" and the anaesthetist turned to us and said "That was the anaesthetic by the way" and Declan just yawned and went to sleep with a smile on his face.
He's currently in intensive care sedated to make sure he doesn't wake up until tomorrow morning and he's on a machine to do his breathing for him because he's so far sedated he wouldn't remember breath by himself.
He looks really well, lots of colour in his cheeks and the doctors are really pleased with his progress so far. He looks a bit lost under all the tubes and wires and stuff but he should come off the ventilator in the morning.
