Finally got the car sorted. The garage knew they were responsible but just wanted to mess me about. The timing chain tensioner was the part at fault and being mechanical, the law says the garage has to pay for the repair or give me a refund - whichever I choose. They finally agreed to give me my old car back which I had part exchanged after I got "firm" with them. I got it back to find they had used about £20 worth of petrol which was in it, put 2 dents in the door and done 800 miles in it in one week. Then they only gsve me £110 out of the £200 I originally gave them which they said was for garaging, recovery and warranty costs. I had even said I would claim on the warranty for them after they refunded me so they wouldn't be too much out of pocket and they still charged me for buying the warranty. Needless to say, they won't be getting anything off me or the warranty company.
