St Georges Day

It's St Georges Day!

I've been out a couple of times today - first time was about 9:30 this morning.  I drove all the way form home to Dawley (about 2-3 miles) and saw not a single St Georges Cross.  Second time was about 3:45 this afternoon and it was a bit better - a few cars had St Georges Crosses and one of the pubs in Dawley had a St Georges Day celebration going on.

Overall, a bit disappointing but nice to see some people making an effort at least.

Sites celebrating St Georges Day:
English Democrat Party
Telford Live (only got a St Georges Cross but it's better than nothing)
Campaign for an English Parliament
Cross of St George
Englishman's Castle

It's worth noting that none of the 5 main political parties (Labour, Lib Dems, Conservatives, Greens and UKIP) mention St Georges Day.  I have also been unable to find a government website that mentions it and the even the BBC website is devoid of St George.  If anyone finds any official websites supporting St Georges Day please let me know.

Good old Google, they'll logo their sites for local celebrations so they must have a St Georges Day theme on google.co.uk surely?  Nope.  They had a St Patrick's Day one on the google.ie site though and I've got a feeling it was on the UK Google site too.  In an attempt to get to the bottom of this, I have sent them the following email ...

Hi,

I logged on to google.co.uk today expecting to see a nice St Georges Day logo at the top of the page such as the one you did for St Patrick's Day.  Imagine my surprise (and disgust) when I found that Google had ignored St Georges Day.  I appreciate that google.co.uk is for the whole of the UK and not just England but English people make up around 85% of the population of the UK so you would have been catering for the majority.

Do you have something against English people?  Is there any reason why St Georges Day is not being celebrated by Google?

While I'm at it, are there any plans for an English Google?  There's a UK Google but not one for England.  There are some seriously obscure local Googles and Jersey and Guernsey even have their own so there's no reason why there shouldn't be a Google England.

I look orward to your timely response.
