I just read this on the BBC News website.
The Battle of Trafalgar has it's 200 year anniversary this year and there is an event to mark the anniversary. However, just in case we offend our friends over the Channel by reminding them that they lost a battle, it won't be called the Battle of Trafalgar. No, instead it will be referred to as "an early 19th century sea battle" in official literature and the British and French/Spanish sides will now be the red and blue teams.
How on earth can we offend the French any more by reminding them we won the Battle of Trafalgar? Firstly, our very existence offends the French and secondly, they're used to losing battles - it's a part of their national heritage!
