The Dutch say Nee

Hot on the heels of the French rejection of the EU treaty, the Dutch have also voted to reject it.  Apparently, both countries have different reasons for voting no but ... who cares?  This is excellent news.  Back to the drawing board boys.

England 3 - Columbia 2

England beat Columbia last night 3-2.  Micheal Owen scored a hat-trick to secure England's victory.  Good match all round, plenty of action and a good result for England.

After Tony Blair's insulting message of congratulations to the English football club, Liverpool FC, in which he said Britain was proud of their achievment, I decided to send an email to the man himself:

Dear Mr Blair,

As a Scot, last nights victory for the English football team against Columbia may not be of much interest to you.  However, can I ask if you watched the game or any of the highlights or news coverage?

If you did, did you see the hundreds, maybe thousands, of English flags in the crowd?  I didn't see a single Union Flag in the crowd, just St George's Crosses.  It was a fabulous sight and made me proud to be English.

Can I ask how this display of English nationality and patriotism reconciles with both your own and your party's contention that the English do not have any overwhelming feeling of shared nationality?  Sport is the only way we English are allowed to express our patriotism in public and en-masse.  In recent years, the English flag has become more prominent at international sporting events yet you continue to perpetuate this myth that there is no such thing as England in the minds of English people.

The wording of your message of congratulations to the "British" football team, Liverpool FC, did not go unnoticed - will you be congratulating the England team for their "British" victory too?

Mr Blair, with the greatest of respect, I believe that you are firmly out of touch with what the majority of the electorate in the UK actually want.  You have spent too much time pandering to the Scots and Welsh and have forgotten about the other 85% of the country that live in England.  This, I feel, is the main reason why the English voted overwhelming against the Labour Party at the General Election.  The English have been marginalised and discriminated against for too long.

The Queen's Speech this year contained not one mention of England or a uniquely English policy yet it contained numerous policies for Scotland and Wales.  How can a fair and responsible government fail to plan anything at all for 5/6ths of the population?

Mr Blair, when will you allow the English to vote on devolution?  Like the rest of the country, I am not interested in Regional Assemblies or the break-up of my country - I just want equality and a fair deal for England.
