Visual Basics is a language that was designed for beginners and seasoned develoers alike. Paul Vick has written this book in such a fashion that everyone can take something away from the book. It is written in a simple but elegant fashion that makes everything clear and easy to understand. He has throughly explained every concpet so that no stone went unturned and no question unanswered.

This book is an execellent tool for discovering Visual Basic .Net programming language. Bill Gates can be quoted saying this “Visual Basic is a cornerstone of Microsoft's development-and this is a book is a key language reference for Visual Basic.“

The book has 407 pages in 16 chapters and 2 appendixes including the index.

Chapters

Chapter 1:   Language Overview
Chapter 2:   Basic Concepts
Chapter 3:   Fundamental Types
Chapter 4:   Arrays and Enumerations
Chapter 5:   Operators
Chapter 6:   Statements
Chapter 7:   Exceptions
Chapter 8:   Modules and Namespaces
Chapter 9:   Classes and Structures
Chatpter 10: Methods
Chapter 11: Fields and Properties
Chapter 12: Events and Delegates
Chapter 13: Inheritance
Chapter 14: Interfaces
Chapter 15: Attributes
Chapter 16: Versioning

Appendixes

A. Runtime Functions
B. Making the Transition from COM to the CLR

This book not only provides an insight into the VB.Net language but it also covers the history of the language. I cannot say it enough that Paul Vick has written an excellent book, both for beginners and those that are making the transition from Visual Basic 6. Overall I would recommend that everyone add this book to their collection. As Bill Gates said “Visual Basic is the cornerstone of Microsoft's development tools,” and Paul has shown that throughout this book.
