VB.NET

Beth Massi, who joined Microsoft recently to take up a post on the  VS Core Community Team working with the Visual Basic Team producing developer content for MSDN has just produced and released a very informative set of 8 How-To videos for VB.NET developers.   These take you through the key steps involved in creating a SQL Server database in Visual Studio, accessing the data, displaying and using it in a Windows Forms environment.

Some of the topics covered include:

  • Creating a Database
  • Connect to a Database
  • Retrieve and Update data
  • Stored Procedures
  • Parametized Queries
  • Data Binding
  • Master-Detail table displays
  • Filtering
  • Searching
  • Formatting displayed data

If, like me, you find that a picture - especially a video picture - is worth a thousand words, and you want to get started or need guidance on the first steps in using SQL Server in your WinForms projects then you should really check them out here.

In a world where so much of the material now seems to be specifically produced for C# developers, this kind of useful resource for VB.NET users is very welcome indeed.

Would have been nice if you would have included the URL. Have you ever tried finding anything on Microsoft's site?

Good point! Sorry - I overlooked that important piece of info. It's in there now. Thanks for pointing it out.
